abstract = {Radix Hedysari (the root of Hedysarum polybotrys Hand. -Mazz.) polysaccharides (RHPS) produced in Gansu province were analysed. Their immunomodulatory and antitumor activity in mice were studied. Hydrolysate of RHPS yielded D-glucose, D-rhamnose, D-galactose, L-xylose and galacturonic acid. RHPS predominantly enhanced the phagocytic index of macrophages (control: 2.0±0.3,RHPS 1 g/kg 2.4±0.5, RHPS 2 g/kg 2.7±0.5) and the E-rosettes formation rate (control 18.6±2.6, RHPS 1 g/kg 26.6±3.1, RHPS 2 g/kg 34.4±4.6).
It suggests that RHPS raises the non-specific immunity and the cellular immunity. The RHPS inhibited the sarcoma proliferation of Ehrlich ascitic carcinoma (EC) and Hepatoma (hep) sarcorma strains (for example, the inhibition percentage of tumor of RHPS (50 mg/kg) was 35.5% on EC and 35.3% on Hep) without loss of body weight and weights of spleen and thymus.},
