abstract = {The genetic toxicity and carcinogenic potential of harringtonine, a new antineoplastic drug, have been assessed by Chinese hamster lung cell chromosomal aberration test and micronucleus test in mice. Harringtonine induced the dose-dependent chromosomal aberrations in vitro. The highest rate of chromosomal aberrations was 47% at 0.2 microg/mL for 48 h. It also induced nuclear fragmentation of hemocytoblast of bone marrow in mice. The number of micronucleated polychromatic crythrocytes was remarkably increased in 1.8% cells at 1.25 mg/kg for 24 h. Obviously harringtonine showed a genetic toxicity and carcinogenic potential.},
