Characteristics of soman diffusion in tissues studied by sticking of pig bristles
Abstract
A new experimental model was established by sticking pig bristles soaked with soman into tissues. Soman diffusion in tissues was determined by a histochemical technique. The importance of blood flow and carboxylic ester hydrolases in limiting the inhibition of cholinesterase was corroborated. Three possibile mechanisms of regional ChE inhibition around small vessels in the tissues of soman poisoned rats may be involved: 1) Soman molecules possess a very strong penetrative capability; 2) Blood flow velocity in the small vessels is greater than that in the capillaries; 3) Blood contains enzymes which neutralize soman.
