Effects of ginseng root saponins on serum corticosterone and brain ncurotransmitters of mice under hypobaric and hypoxic environment
Abstract
When mice were exposed to hypobaric and hypoxic environments the levels of brain neurotransmitters (NE, DA. ACh. 5-HT) decreased. These results were reversed and diminished by ginseng root saponins (GRS. ip 100 mg/kg). GRS increased the level of serum corticosterone in hypobaric mice. The increase in corticosterone in normal mice brought about by GPS was inhibited by p-chlorophenylalanine(ip.300 mg/kg) and reserpine (ip, 0.5 mg/kg). These results suggest that the stimulative action of GRS on adrenal gland of hypobaric mice may be related to the effect of GRS on brain neurotransmitters.
