Effects of rhynchophylline on myocardial contractility in anesthetized dogs and cats
Abstract
Rhynchophylline 20 mg/kg was given iv to 8 dogs and 5 cats of either sex, anesthetized with sodium pentobarbitone 30 mg/kg. The dP/dtmax, Vpm, Vmax and tension of left ventricular wall were reduced to 34, 38, 25, and 37%, respectively (P<0.05 and P<0.01). Phynchophylline showed depressive effects on myocardial contractility, reduced tension time index of ventricular ejection and had an effect of decreasing myocardial O2 consumption. The negative inotropic action was one of the causes of hypotension.
