Alpha-adrenoceptor blocking effect of berberine in isolated rat anococcygeus muscles and rabbit aortic strips
Abstract
The cumulative dose-response curve for phenylephrine was shifted to the right parallelly by berberine (0.3, 1 an 3 micromol/L) and prazosin (0.01, 0.03 and 0.1 micromol/L) without change in the maximal response. The pA2 values of berberine in the 2 preparations were 6.6 and 6.5, respectively. The results indicate that beberine, like prazosin, shows a competitive alpha-adrenoceptor blocking action.
