Effects of fluorocarbons perfusion on isolated working guinea pig hearts
Abstract
The effective period of isolated working guinea pig heart perfused by Krebs-Henseleit solution (KH) was 50 min, then it appeared heart failure manifested by declination of stroke volume concomitant with decrease of –dP/dtmax, but no marked changes in AP, LVP, LVEDP, HR, and +dP/dtmax. This fact suggests that the heart failure is primarily related to the impairment of ventricular relaxation. Fluorocarbons at a concentration of 0.05% added in KH prolonged the effective time by 30 min, but it also constricted coronary vessels and reduced coronary blood flow which in part counteracted its beneficial effect on the heart.
