D-Camphor-β-sulfonic acid as an ion-pair reagent for determination of biogenic amine and their metabolites in rat brain by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography
Abstract
D-Camphor-β-sulfonic acid has been proved by us to be a new ion-pair reagent for the determination of catecholamines. Catecholamines, 5-hydroxytryptamine and their metabolites in hypothalamus, hippocampus and corpus striatum of rat were determined by ion-pair reversed phase HPLC with electrochemical detection. The separation of biological amines and their metabolites was performed on aμ-Bondapak C column with an eluting system containing chloroacetic acid-NaOH buffer and methanol as the organic modifier. A good linear relationship was found between the concentrations and peak heights of the biogenic amines and their metabolites from 0.1-40 ng. The correlation coefficients ranged from 0.993 to 0.999. The detection limit was 100 pg.
