Abstract

When BABI/C mice, infected with about 300 Schistosoma japonicum cercariae for 3 h, were given intragastrically with praziquantel at a single dose of 400 mg/kg, the phagocytosis of their peritoneal macrophages increased significantly within 2-72 h after the medication. The proliferative response of splenic lymphocytes induced by PHA and Con A increased at 72 h after the treatment. This increase in stimulation index of lymphocytes to PHA and Con A occurred also in uninfected BABL/C mice treated with the same dose of praziquantel. No effect of praziquantel on total serum complement content of BABL/C mice was observed.
