Effect of total saponins of Panax notoginseng on adrenocortical function of rats and guinea pigs
Abstract
Effects of total saponins of Panax notoginseng (PNS) were studied on rats and guinea pigs. Ip PNS 60-240 mg/kg decreased adrenal ascorbic acid in rats. Ip PNS 200 mg/kg did not decrease adrenal ascorbic acid in hypophysectomized rats. Ip PNS 200 mg/kg increased plasma corticosteroid in guinea pig from 30±(SD)14 to 103±75μg/100 ml. It is suggested that PNS stimulates adrenocortical function via pituitary gland.
