Effects of tanshinone II-A sulfonate on thrombus formation, platelet and blood coagulation in rats and mice
Abstract
Tanshinone II-A sulfonate 12.5-38 mg/kg iv into rats and mice produced 1) a prolongation of thrombus formation time, 2) a shortening of thrombus length, 3) a reduction of wet and dry thrombus weights, 4) an inhibition of platelet adhesion and aggregation, and 5) prologations of recalcification time, prothrombin time and kaolin partial thromboplastin time.Only the platelet adhesion and aggregation were inhibited after iv 6.25 mg/kg in rats. These changes may be responsible for its clinical efficacy in treating angina pectoris.
