Effect of tetramethylpyrazine on experimental thrombosis formation
Abstract
Tetramethylpyrazine-HCl (TMP) in vitro inhibited platelet aggregation induced by ADP 1 mg/ml, the inhibiting rate amounting to 94.3+/-2.9%. TMP prolonged thrombus formation time by Chandler’s technique, decreased the length and wet weight of the thrombus, but did not reduce the dry weight. TMP 60 mg/kg iv prevented the thrombus formation in arteriovenous shunt in rats. However, this preventing effect was not seen during the thrombus formation in the marginal vein of rabbit ear induced by thrombin. These results suggest that TMP prevents arterial thrombus of formation via the inhibition of platelet aggregation.
