Effects of tetrandrine on experimental arrhythmias
Abstract
In anesthetized rats iv tetrandrine (T) 9 mg/kg prevented the arrhythmia induced by iv BaCl2 4 mg/kg or reverted the arrhythmia to a normal sinus rhythm immediately. T 6-9 mg/kg iv delayed the onset of arrhythmia induced by iv aconitine 8 microg/kg from 2.4+/-(SD) 1.2 to 4.0+/-1.2 min. T 9 mg/kg iv protected the rats from the ventricular fibrillation and death induced by iv CaCl2 120-130 mg/kg.
In anesthetized guinea pigs with arrhythmias induced by iv ouabain 100 microg/kg/2 min, T 6 mg/kg iv shortened the duration of ventricular tachycardia from 18+/-7 to 4.4+/-2.2 min. But T did not raise the electrical ventricular fibrillation threshold in anesthetized rabbits.
Verapamil 1 mg/kg iv did not delay the onset of aconitine-induced arrhythmia.
