Earthworm dorsal muscle preparation for studying gammaaminobutyric acid, acetylcholine and glutamic acid
Abstract
A new model of earthworm (Eisenia foedida) dorsal muscle preparation was discovered. The response of muscle was recorded through mechanical functional changes instead of potential variations. It is more direct, simpler and specific for measuring GABA activity and screening GABA receptor agonist or antagonist. This model could also be used to test other neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine and glutamic acid.
