The 1st plenary meeting of the 6th Editorial Board was held on November 1, 2003 at the new building of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Pudong, Shanghai. Thirty-one Board members attended the meeting.
The newly-elected Editor-in-Chief, Professor Kai-xian CHEN, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented an opening speech and gave an account of the election procedure of the Board members. He summarized the progress of Acta Pharmacologica Sinica during the past 5 years and put forward the 3rd 10-year development strategy for the Journal. At the end of his speech, he expressed his deep gratitude to the contributions of the Board members and showed a solid confidence in the Journal to be more international, influential and potent toward the market in the future.
Professor Zhi-bin LIN, President of the Chinese Pharmacological Society, offered his congratulations on the Board meeting on behalf of the Society. He believed that upon the joint effort of the Board members, the Journal would attain a higher internationality in the future.
Academicians Zhi-qiang CHI and Xi-can TANG and all other members commented a lot on the future development of the Journal. After that, the meeting entered upon the discussion on the candidacy of the International Advisory Board members and decided to invite Prof Paul M Vanhoutte to be the Chairman of the Advisory Board. The meeting also suggested that more attention should be paid to the quality control of the articles submitted. The papers accepted should be focused on original researches on internationally important topics.
